Entrance Exam

Any eighth grade student interested in applying to Andrean must take The High School Placement test and indicate Andrean as their choice of high school. To qualify for academic scholarships, the test must be taken at Andrean on the December or January test date.

Time - 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m
Cost: $20.00 - (Bring two #2 pencils)
No calculators allowed.
Pre-registration is not necessary.
Arrive by 7:45 a.m. test begins promptly at 8:00 a.m.
Enter the back door (L) or (M) and go to the gym

Description of test:

The Scholastic Testing Service (STS) - High School Placement Test (HSPT) measures a student's ability in cognitive and basic skill areas and can be administered in a relatively limited amount of time. Since the entire battery is standardized at the same time, with a population of entering high school students, the end results are directly comparable for all test areas and is related to the level of the students at the time of entering high school.

Cognitive Skills Score
(Verbal Ability Score) + (Quantitative Score)

Verbal- 60 questions assessing a variety of skills, including verbal analogy, verbal classification, logical reasoning, and the recognition and usage of synonyms and antonyms. (Verbal Ability Score)

Quantitative - 52 questions on number and letter series, picture analogy, and picture classification. (Quantitative Ability Score)

Basic Skills Score
(Reading Score) + (Mathematics Score) + (Language Score)

Reading - 62 questions testing major comprehension skills including: ability to remember important ideas and significant details, recognizing central thought or purpose, making logical inferences, and understanding vocabulary in context. (Reading Score)

Mathematics - 64 questions evaluating computation, problem-solving skills, knowledge of important concepts, and ability to reason. (Mathematics Score)

Language - 60 questions testing skills in grammar, spelling, syllabication, style, usage, and diction. (Language Score)

Foreign Language Placement Exam (Administered in May)

If students have had at least one year of a foreign language and wish to see if they can test out of the first year of foreign language at Andrean this is the only opportunity.
No charge for the test.

Auxiliary Mathematics Placement Exam (Administered in May)

Mathematics exam to determine placement. Optional test.
No charge.
